Today I read that 27 US Congress members signed & delivered a letter to the CEO & Chairman of Dow Chemical Company (current owner of the former Union Carbide Plant, gas leak tragedy) Andrew Liveris. The letter was endorsed by survivors of the tragedy as represented by the International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal and was spearheaded by New Jersey Congressman Frank Pallone.

In his comments Pallone was quoted as saying "After 25 years, the human and environmental tragedy of the Bhopal chemical disaster remains with us" ... " while thousands continue to suffer, Union Carbide and its successor, Dow Chemical, have yet to be brought to justice ... members of Congress will continue to fight against companies that evade civil and criminal liability by exploiting international borders and legal jurisdictions.

I want to thank Congressman Pallone & the other members of Congress for the bold & decisive leadership on this issue. It renews my faith in what our public servants & elected representatives are elected to do on our behalf.

*The below link is to a letter Pallone wrote to the Prime Minister of India last year & to his website. http://www.house.gov/list/press/nj06_pallone/pr_june5_bhopalvictims.html
Blessings,
Adisaji

On June 10th I paid a visit to the location of the tragic toxic gas leak in the city of Bhopal, India. Guess I was making a post today on another blogger by the name of M. Just I've been living in India for the past two years. I hope to continue the focus of this blog on "meditation Q&A" but will likely expand as time goes on. I've gotta keep up on MySpace, FaceBook, Twitter & even our website at http://www.ikologiks.org/ so this is almost becoming a full time occupation.

If you took the time to read this post ... leave a comment. If I know people are viewer I'll become more focused on returning to blog here.

Peace & Love, Adisaji

APEX, North Carolina Explosion and Fire!

Peace & Blessings! I'm okay! I thank the many people who called and e-mailed to find out if I was affected by this recent catastrophe. I live about 20 miles north-east of the incident so the Chlorine gas cloud did not affect my area of Raleigh.

Gee, I have to apologize for not making posts to this Blog since it was established. I was extremely busy preparing and editing the release of the brand new Second Edition of "Practicing the Iko-Meditation Technique Level One" which will be in some stores and officially released on October 18, 2006. The book is a great leap from the first edition ( about 40 pages) and now contains over 200 pages and updates, including some discussion about my four year sojourn in South Korea.

*******************************************************************

Innerstanding Message 10/07/06

I was watching the PBS News Hour last night and they had a segment about the upcoming mid-term elections between Republicans and Democrats this season. The news followed several candidates on the their campaign trail that were meeting with prospective voters. In one clip a candidate (can't remember his name) was shaking hands with a prospective voter asking for his support and said "I hope you keep me in your prayers." But, then the politician kinda winced and then said rather strongly to the man " But, I also need your vote."

The lesson in the above story, which might sometimes seems elusive to most of us. Is that, people often say "I'm praying for you." It is a convenient way of excusing themselves from actually DOING ANYTHING TO REALLY HELP YOU. I get this remark all the time, especially since I now have Type 2 Diabetes. People are always saying to me "Oh Adisa, I'm so sorry to hear ... I'll pray for you or keep you in my prayers." I too, sometimes tell people this when I feel powerless or unable to really help someone. But, I think quite often we just use it as a quick excuse for our own inaction. That inaction is rooted in the fact that we really care about ourselves first, family second and then other things. To be "selfless" in the service of others is almost alien the minds of people functioning in a "me first" or "survival of the fittest" mentality society.

So that is why watching that news clip I could see that the politician knew he wasn't gonna get elected solely with a "wing and a prayer." That is why he told the man to go out and vote. Because, voting is an action and actions always speak louder than words. So the next time you tell someone "I'll pray for you" maybe think more carefully about it. Have you done (taken action) something to really help that person? For many years, I get told by so many people that they have received real benefits from Ikologiks training and about how much they valued the lessons or guidance. Yet, few if any of them have lifted a finger to offer tangible support either then or now. It would be nice to see some say "Adisaji I want to help pay for your medical treatments" or "here's a contribution to the building fund for the Ikologiks Center for Global Studies." But, more likely then not, I'll get the usual "hope it works out, I'll pray for you." Some even try to hide their selfish ways, with philosophical jargon or retorts like " Adisa, things happen in time, maybe it's not the right time for Ikologis." I guess some will pray over my grave and say, "I wish he would have fulfilled his work ... so sad to see him go before the mission was fulfilled."

Just imagine, if rather than teach you or having constantly made the sacrifices over the years for so many of my students, I simply said "oh, I'll pray for you." Where would you (they) be now? It is so easy to forget that when a 'seed' is planted although the plant seems to blossom and grow on its own accord, nevertheless, without the seed giver or the 'act of planting it' nothing would have grown in the first place. Yes, the planter gets teary eyed seeing the plants grow and I am glad to see so many prospering from the lessons they received in Ikologiks or the Nine Principles of Life. So don't feel guilty or bad -- just pray for me.

Be Well My Children,

Adisaji

THIS IS MY FIRST BLOG!

Making the transition from the "Innerstanding Teachings of Adisaji" to this format will be a bit difficult. I'm not really used to sharing much about my personal feelings, struggles or passions. I guess in some ways it is easier to intellectualize and pontificate that to share your own intimate feelings.

Gee, the first days of September are here already! Ernesto & John are paying a visit to both the west and east coast to mark the first anniversary of Katrina. Katrina was a "man-made" disaster and not one from "heaven" -- it displayed the reckless regard that human beings can have for their fellow man/woman. But, at least the news media stopped talking about the Jon Benet Ramsey murder for awhile.

Hurricanes are so beautiful to watch from high above, but not on the ground below where their affects are felt. To see the swirling clouds majestically create a spiral of energy is amazing. The "spiral" is the most important symbol in most spiritual traditions and is used in Reiki as the main activating connector for healing energy.

I enjoy the cool that comes with a storm and somehow the pouring rain soothes my spirit and makes me want to do more than when it is a sunny day. Guess I'm different than most folks in this regard.

The month of August was really a tough period for me ... it seems like a hurricance swept through my personal life in a way that ravaged my emotions, spirit and mind. Yet, somehow I survived the karmic storm and winds of despair to center myself in the "eye" of the storm. Yes, it is in the eye of the hurricane that we find utter calm and peace. For me, that "eye" is the "third eye" that I center on when I meditate. Even, the enlightened ones face adversity and calamities. So don't think just because you meditate nothing affects you.

I had a really tough problem this past week with Cingular wireless (I strongly suggest you don't choose them as your carrier) and after five hours of exhaustive calls to customer service managers and supervisors I got nowhere. So I just sat and meditated. It did not change the circumstances, but it changed how I felt about the situation. That is the real power in meditation! We can't stop a hurricane, but we can definitely prepare for it and decide how we will respond in the aftermath. A lesson, perhaps FEMA, Homeland Security and George Bush failed to observe in the case of Katrina.

In a couple of weeks it will be the beginning of autumn. I guess I will soon be sipping on a nice cup of chai, as the days get cooler and I continue working on the new book releases.

No plans for Labor Day Weekend ... guess, I'll just be on the computer hacking away on the book.

Until next time ...
